Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are very popular, quick injectable treatments that can soften facial wrinkles and fill out hollows to recreate the smooth contours of younger skin. Fillers are popular with those seeking swift, non-surgical solution for ageing skin that has lost volume as the collagen that previously helped to shape and support it has disappeared.

What is Dermal Filler?

Maintaining the skin’s volume and definition becomes much more of a challenge as we grow older. Dermal filler injections can be used to enhance facial contours, plump the lips and improve texture, tone and hydration of the skin, as the natural production of collagen and elastin decrease with age.

A large percentage of our skin (approximately 56%) is made up from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a highly absorbent substance that hydrates and creates volume. As we age, our levels of HA decrease, causing fine lines, wrinkles and dehydrated skin. There are a range of products available to suit every treatment need and subtly minimise creases and revive the complexion.

The dermal filler gel consists of a minimally modified hyaluronic acid that is similar to the hyaluronic acid that is naturally found in the body. The contents can almost be described as sugar and water and the dermal filler is slowly broken down in a natural way in the body. A newly published clinical study shows that the effect of the dermal filler treatment together with an additional follow-up treatment can last up to as long as 18 months. How long will the procedure take?

Depending on the number of areas being treated, most anti-wrinkle injectables can be done within 30 minutes. Results are usually noticeable within 4- 7 days but can take up to 2 weeks for full results to be visible.

What are the potential side-effects of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers do come with some temporary side effects which generally occur in the immediate aftermath of receiving the injections. These may include slight redness, bruising or swelling but will subside after several days. This is applies to all dermal fillers, including lip and cheek enhancements.

The lips are one of the most prominent features on our face and for many, achieving fuller, more plumped lips helps to restore confidence and bring back balance to the facial features, we feel age or other factors, may have affected. Whether lips have lost volume and shape through the natural ageing process, or you just want to achieve a fuller, more voluminous smile, there are a number of lip enhancing and rejuvenating treatments which your practitioner will discuss in more detail.

What are the potential side effects of lip enhancement?

As with any treatment, side effects are a possibility but not everyone will have the same experience. Some of the effects might include; Swelling and Bruising- Swelling and bruising of the lips may occur along with slight bleeding at the injection site. This bruising should subside within 5-7 days and bleeding will be minimal and should only last a few minutes. Other side effects are possible, but your practitioner will discuss these all in detail at your consultation.

Cheek Enhancements

Cheeks are a very important feature of the mid face and as we age, the levels of facial subcutaneous fat decrease leading to loss of volume in the cheekbones. This can lead to a hollow effect around the cheekbone and results in many people suggesting they feel tired-looking and lack the facial contour they once had. This leads to formation of jowls (the sag around the chin area) and nose to mouth lines).

Lack of the natural youthful curves of the face can be restored by fillers which work to restore contour and shape to the face and stimulate a lifting effect. Hyaluronic Acid and RADIESSE® are recommended fillers for cheek enhancement. There are different options of dermal fillers which stimulates your body to produce more collagen and the results of this type of treatment are visible for up to one year but may last longer
